My fees vary according to the complexity of the project, the timescales involved, and the amount of research material and support available. As a general rule of thumb, my fees for technical writing services are based on an hourly rate of £50 (day rate of £400).

I work remotely (from home), and in most cases will need a sample of your product. To perform my role, I will need telephone or e-mail support from you - I will have a lot of questions! But don't worry, I am a quick learner and am able to get to grips with all sorts of obscure technology and systems very quickly.

Technical Writing Deadlines and Quotes

I detest lateness. It is one of my pet hates. That’s why when I set a deadline, I meet it (unless the specifics of the brief change mid-project). But despite my hardline approach with timescales, I am very adaptable. If you have to change the brief or your timescales change, it’s not a major problem - as long as you let me know, we can work something out. I’ll always do my best to provide what you need.

When quoting for a job, I estimate the price based on the amount of time required. I prefer to work to a set fee rather than an hourly rate or daily rate as I don’t believe working for a time rate is productive. It can cause mistrust, especially with technical writing where a single page describing a complex system can take longer than 15 pages of simpler explanations and descriptions.

With a set fee, we all know where we stand from the start.
